In some families, there will be multiple consoles. One of them will be used by kids, while their kids use the other one. To help them, Microsoft introduced the Game Sharing Feature in Xbox One.
This feature allows parents to save on buying multiple copies of the games. Rather than paying twice, all members of the family can play the same game using this feature.
The good thing about Microsoft accounts is that they have robust family features. These features span across multiple PCs, which makes it possible for parents to monitor the activities of their kids.
Game sharing is different in Xbox
As against other consoles, game sharing is a little different in Xbox. Here is a guide to give you a walkthrough on how to share games in this console with family between multiple consoles:
Microsoft will permit you to indicate your main console as “My Home Xbox.” At the time of signing into a new console, it will automatically set this console as the Home Xbox. Here, you will understand how to use this feature for game sharing:
When you shop for a game or any content from My Home Xbox, it will let you share games and other content that can be downloaded from the store with your friends or family members, who signs in that console. This is something similar to what you experience in your personal computer.
Setting the primary console
Before moving into multiple console settings, now, you should understand how to set your primary console as My Home Xbox. Here is how to do it:
- The first thing you will have to do is to tap the Xbox button to open the guide.
- To do this, you can go to the system, then settings, and go to personalization. After reaching this section, select My Home Xbox.
- Read the content showing. Then, select “Make This My Home Xbox”. These steps will help you designate the console as your home Xbox.
The thing to remember here is that you cannot assign above a single Xbox Console as your home Xbox. You will be in a position to share the games that you purchase and also Xbox Gold with other users only on your Main Xbox.
Multiple console scenario
This is the tricky section. You might have kids using the Home Xbox in your family group. They will not be in a position to get Xbox Live Gold or download the same game that you have bought before their account. This becomes possible only on the primary console, which is nothing, but “My Home Box.”
The thing to remember here is that Xbox System permits you to sign in to some other console. Then, you can download the games that you have bought and can play it. As you have Xbox Live Gold, you can go multiplayer as well.
You have two consoles in your home just because they will not disturb your games. It means that you will be interested in passing on the benefits of Xbox Live to your kids as well.
Here is how you can do it:
- The first thing you will have to do is to add your kids to your family account.
- Once added, set up their account in your family account.
- Now, get rid of your console as My Home Xbox and then add the console of your kids as My Home Xbox.
- Doing the step above will ensure that you will continue to get all the benefits of your account. However, you will continue to have your control.
Even though you have turned the console of your kids as the “My Home Xbox,” you can continue to do one thing on your console.
You can enjoy the benefits on your console. You can share your Xbox games with your family so that they can also enjoy the games.
A word of caution
Of course, you can use the method mentioned above to share Xbox Live Gold with two consoles. However, we should give a word of caution here. As you have made the console of your kids as the My Home Xbox now, any game purchases you make should be on the console of your kids using your account.
On the other hand, if you make your purchase from the secondary console, your kids will never be in a position to use those games.
Also, if you allow one of your friends to sign in into his Xbox Live Account on your console, which is presently the secondary console, he/she will not be in a position to play the games installed on this console. He/she cannot do it unless the person owns it. The person will be promoted to purchase a digital copy of the game or to insert the game disc.
You know that Xbox Live Gold is not just about gaming. It has many other features as well. If you wish someone to get the same experience as you get from your Xbox Live Gold Account, you can do it in a couple of ways.
The first option is that you can permit the person to use your account. The second option available is to use the guest account feature in Xbox. When you use the second option, you will be permitted to create a temporary account.
Using this temporary account, the person can get the chance to play the games that you want him/her to try.
